Why machine learning tools?

We believe that software is fundamentally changing the world and that AI is on the verge of fundamentally changing software. We want to put high quality tools in the hands of the world’s deep learning practitioners because:

Tools are high leverage

Building one great tool can make an entire industry work more efficiently across thousands or millions of projects.

Tools democratize

We think the world needs more people working on machine learning and it shouldn’t require a PhD. High quality tools can ease the learning curve.

Tools are fun

There is nothing more satisfying than painting with a good paint brush, preparing food with a sharp knife or writing code in a well-configured text editor. We want to make building machine learning models a pleasure.

Lukas Biewald

Co-founder & CEO

Lukas is co-founder and CEO of Weights & BIases. He was previously a co-founder for Figure Eight, a human in the loop ai training platform and worked as a Senior Scientist and Manager within the Ranking and Management Team at Powerset, Inc., a natural language search technology company later acquired by Microsoft, and also led the Search Relevance Team for Yahoo, Japan! He combines his passion for AI, Robotics and Computer Science in his robotics and AI lab in the basement of his outer mission house. On any given day, you can see Lukas tinkering with his inventions, programing facial recognition drones and recording youtube how to videos on how to build robots and build ai algorithms. He graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Computer Science. Lukas is also an expert-level Go player.

Shawn Lewis

Co-founder & CTO

Shawn is co-founder at Weights & Biases.  He was previously the founder of Beep, where he designed wireless electronics and brought them to market. He started his career as a software engineer at Google where he was a member of the Platforms team working on everything from operating systems to data science.  Shawn loves all aspects building useful products, and is especially excited about contributing toward the potential inception of strong AI. He graduated with a Computer Engineering degree from Virginia Tech.

Chris Van Pelt

Co-founder

Chris is a technical co-founder of Weights & Biases. He was previously a technical co-founder for Figure Eight, a human in the loop ai training platform and a product manager at Powerset, Inc., a natural language search technology company later acquired by Microsoft. Chris has worked as a studio artist, computer scientist, and web engineer. He combines deep design insight with crisp, minimalist coding abilities that enables him to produce anything — soup-to-nuts applications — sometimes within minutes. Chris studied both art and computer science at Hope College.

Adrian Bauer

Engineer

Adrian is the first engineer at Weights & Biases.  He was the CTO of Mod9 Technologies where he trained and adapted speech recognition models and systematized model deployment, led data efforts at Quettra (acquired by SimilarWeb), and a software engineer at Google. Adrian loves rock climbing, early-stage startups, and voice interfaces. He graduated with a BS in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.

Arsen Ari Kalfayan
